Instruments from the Royal College of Music museum

This odd instrument is effectively the precursor to the electric violin. The strings are played and the sound picked up and amplified by the horn. It was supposed to reduce the number of violins needed in an ensemble.

Inlaid wood.

Beautifully decorated violins. Apparently their sound doesn't match their beauty.
